Information about the Vinkara winery and the brand
Vinkara's history dates back to the 1960s when the group bought land in the Kalecik area of Ankara. The entry into viticulture began in 2003 with the cultivation of vineyards in Kalecik. Today Vinkara has vineyards and production facilities on 135 hectares with a capacity of 1.040.000 liters of wine.
In 2008 the Italian wine producer and oenologist Signor Marco Monchiero joined our group. The microclimate created by the mountains around the Kalecik area makes it one of the most important wine growing centers in the world. This climate is the same as in the regions of the world where Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grapes are grown.
The air hits the mountains as it rises, creating hot weather in the valley and rain in the plains. The Vinkara vineyards are approx. 650 m above sea level and in close proximity to Kizilirmak. Since there is a big difference between day and night temperatures, the grapes grown in Kalecik have a distinctive taste and aroma.
The best-known grape grown bears the name of the region: Kalecik Karasi. The flavors of Kalecik Karasi wines are not strong with just the right level of tannins and a smooth finish. 60% of Vinkara's vineyards are primarily assigned Kalecik Karasi grapes, but other Anatolian grapes as well as international vines are also grown.
As a young, dynamic wine company, Vinkara produced a sparkling wine from Kalecik Karasi (Blanc de noir) called Yasasin using the traditional Champenoise method for the first time in Turkey. The aim of the company is to bring this special grape "Kalecik Karasi" closer to international wine lovers.
In the short history of Vinkara, Vinkara products have won the Grand Gold medal in the Mundus Vini (Germany) competitions in 2011 and gold medals in the Mondiales des Vins (Canada) selection competitions in 2011 and 2012.
